Commercially produced surfactants may contain a blend of hydrophobic chains with varying degrees of ethoxylation (EO number). Conventional RP columns yield complex overlapping envelopes with poor resolution. The Acclaim Mixed-Mode HILIC-1 column, used in RP mode, is insensitive to ethoxyation, and so condenses the EO envelopes into a few sharp peaks separated on hydrophobe length. Here, different average EO numbers have no effect on retention.
