Normal-Phase Retention of Urea on Acclaim Mixed-Mode HILIC-1

Urea is a highly hydrophilic molecule, and is essentially unretained by revered-phase columns. In normal-phase (NP) mode, the Acclaim Mixed-Mode HILIC-1 column retains urea by hydrogen-bonding interactions. In NP mode, water is the strong solvent, and as the content of water decreases in the mobile phase, the retention of urea on the column increases.
