Soft drinks can contain many additives including caffeine, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, and other flavor components. Since many of these compounds are weak acids, they are retained on the Acclaim Mixed-Mode WAX-1 column. The pH may be lowered to favor reversed-phase retention, or raised to promote anion-exchange retention. In this way, the separation can be adjusted to the particular requirements of a specific beverage formulation.
