Chromeleon Chromatography Management Systems: Specifications
ArchitectureDistributed client/server: "server" software module manages all real-time instrument control and data acquisition tasks, "client" software module provides all user interface functions. Any number of client instances can connect to any number of server instances. Client and server modules can be used together on the samePC (a "workstation"), or onseparate PCs ("instrument controllers" and "remote clients").
Operating SystemsMicrosoft® Windows® XP or Windows 2000 (can be mixed in network installations).
Relational DatabaseFast retrieval of samples based on any combination of sample, sequence, and result criteria.
Compatible with Oracle® 8i and 9i, Microsoft SQL Server 7, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, and Microsoft Jet Engine 3/4 (Access MDB format).
Sample ManagementFast, easy generation of sequences using Sequence Wizard or LIMS Worklist import. Unlimited number of samples per sequence; unlimited number of sequences per batch.
Instrument ControlUp to six timebases (independent instrument systems) per workstation or instrument controller. Up to two diode-array detectors per workstation. Full control for over 260 different instruments from more than 25 manufacturers through RS-232, IEEE-488, DX-LAN™, USB, LAN, etc. Programmable triggers for conditional execution of instrument control commands.
Data AcquisitionDirect digital data acquisition from most Dionex detectors; acquisition from other instruments via UCI Universal Chromatography Interfaces at rates up to 100 Hz with 25-bit dynamic resolution. Up to 16 standard detector channels per timebase (chromatography system), more for photodiode array and mass spectrometry channels.  Chromatogram run times up to 999.999 min.
Peak Detection and Identification

More than 25 time-programmable detection options.
Easy manual manipulation of baselines.
Component identification based on absolute or relative retention time, with or without spectral matching.
Up to 1024 sample components per method.
Independently selectable identification parameters for each component.
Unlimited number of component groups per method.

Quantitation

External standard, internal standard, and internal/external standard methodologies.
Five sequence calibration mode options (fixed, total, additional, group, and bracketed).
Linear, quadratic, cubic, point-to-point, and exponential calibration curves.
1/x, 1/x², 1/y, 1/y² polynomial curve weightings.
Choice of origin treatment (force, include, ignore).
Quantitation of identified and unidentified components using fixed or relative response factors.
Standard Addition methodology support.
Option to invert variables before curve fitting.
Blank and Matrix Blank correction options.
Independently selectable calibration options for each component.
Manual enable/disable of individual calibration points.
Instant updating of all results in response to any change (can be disabled).

Reporting

Integrated Microsoft Excel-compatible spreadsheet provides complete reporting flexibility with dynamic updating.
Extensive set of report variable and report table options facilitates generation of single-injection, calibration, summary, system suitability, audit trail, fraction collection, and other types of reports.
User-defined sample and peak variables are fully supported.
Optional Report Publisher allows incorporation of charts and user-defined formulas written in Excel syntax.

Optional Software Components

PDA Control  supports collection of full-spectrum UV data from up to 2 photodiode-array detectors per workstation. (Peak purity analysis, spectral library matching, and method optimization tools can be used on any client station that has access to the acquired PDA data).
Mass Spectrometer Support for Finnigan AQA  and Finnigan MSQ  (Thermo Electron Corp.) provides full instrument control in ESI and APCI modes with positive and/or negative ionization; supports full-scan and multiple SIM channels; generates extracted ion chromatograms (post-run or real-time) and TICs; and provides interlinked, interactive displays of mass spectra and chromatograms from multiple channels. Supports advanced applications like mass-directed fraction collection.
Multiple Network Control   permits instruments attached to a workstation or instrument controller to be accessed and controlled through remote clients, and provides network failure protection.
Report Publisher  supports custom equations and charting.
GLP Option  provides user access control, electronic signature, and modification history features.
Virtual Column  Separation Simulator models gradient and isocratic IC separations and quickly finds optimum conditions for various IC applicatons.

SecuritySecurity can be implemented at 3 levels: operating system, database, and application. At the application level, over 100 chromatography-specific privileges can be separately controlled for an unlimited number of Privilege Groups. Access to individual instruments, datasources, and data folders can be controlled for an unlimited number of Access Groups. Numerous administrator tools are provided. (GLP Option required).
Validation

Certificate of Software Validation provided with software media.
AutoQ  — a full complement of automated validation tools including Software IQ, Software OQ, Instrument OQ, and Instrument PQ.

Audit Trails

Secure, computer-generated, time-stamped audit trails automatically record details of system usage:
Instrument Event Logs  document all instrument and operator actions related to data acquisition.
Modification Histories  document all changes made to control programs, methods, data objects, etc. (GLP Option required).
User Database Histories  document user logins, login failures, password changes, privilege changes, and electronic signature events. (GLP Option required).

Electronic SignaturesComplete, seamless implementation of electronic signatures, compliant with requirements of 21 CFR Part 11 (GLP Option required).
Software Interfacing CapabilitiesImport of ASCII sample worklists.
Direct import of raw data from Dionex PeakNet®, Agilent ChemStation, Agilent LAS and ANDI formats.
Export of results as text, native Microsoft Excel, and Portable Document Format (PDF) files.
Export of raw data in ANDI format (Types 1 and 2) and ASCII lists.
Direct interfacing to third-party applications through COM model using optional Software Developer's Kit. Fileless interfacing to LIMS using  Labtronics LimsLinkCDS.
