The CarboPacTM PA1 is the workhorse of all carbohydrate columns. Rugged, reliable, and reproducible, this column is used for the analysis of monosaccharides, disaccharides, and for linear polysaccharide profiling.
A rugged, general-purpose column suitable for the simple, isocratic determination of monosaccharides and disaccharides in a variety of matrices
Detection by pulsed amperometric detection, thus no derivatization needed
Approved for use in a variety of official methods for the analysis of foods
Column of choice for linear polysaccharide profiling
The CarboPac PA1 column is a general-purpose, anion-exchange column for the separation of mono-, disaccharides, and specific oligosaccharides, with a simple isocratic eluent. Sialic acid analysis has also been demonstrated on this column. Detection is direct using pulsed amperometric detection; no derivatization is required. Sensitivity on the CarboPac PA1 is not as high as with the CarboPac PA20 or CarboPac PA10 for monosaccharide analysis. Thus the CarboPac PA1 is well suited for the analysis of foods for nutritional labeling. The CarboPac PA1 has been approved for use in a number of official methods, including ISO/DIS 11292 for coffee authenticity, International Committee of Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysis (ICUMSA) for sugars in molasses and AOAC Methods 996.04 and 2000.11.
The CarboPac PA1 is the column of choice for high-resolution gradient separations of linear polysaccharides, such as maltodextrins used for tableting pharmaceuticals, or those used as high-calorie nutritive supplements. The unique MicroBeadTM pellicular structure of the CarboPac PA1 resin gives it stability from pH 0–14 at all concentrations of buffer salts. The pellicular resin structure allows excellent mass transfer resulting in fast gradient reequilibration.
The performance of each column is verified with a mixture of three sugars to ensure reliable performance for the separation of simple carbohydrates. Semipreparative chromatography is easy with the 9 × 250 mm CarboPac PA1 column. This column has identical selectivity and efficiency with five times the capacity of the 4 × 250 mm CarboPac PA1 analytical column.
